Tarot Readings at Dell's Summer Party in Dublin
Last night I was at St. Helen's Hotel in Dublin for Dell's staff summer party. It was a barbecue evening and I had my own area set up inside doing tarot readings, while Steve Spade worked the crowd with close-up magic. The whole booking was part of an Elite Irish Magicians package, so having both of us there at once worked perfectly.
Two Different Experiences, One Great Night
I love that pairing. Steve moving from group to group getting reactions, me sitting with people one at a time for something a bit quieter and more personal. It gives guests a real choice about how they want to spend their evening and the two experiences feed off each other in a way that works really well. People would come and sit down for a reading having just watched Steve do something impossible nearby, so there was already a lovely energy in the room before anyone even pulled a card.
We Stayed an Extra Hour
By the time we were due to finish, there was still a proper queue for readings and I really didn't want to leave anyone waiting. So we stayed on and made sure everyone who wanted a reading got one. I was losing my voice a bit at that stage, which happens when I get really into it because I want to make sure people actually feel heard and take something away from the conversation. The Dell staff were brilliant about it though, they kept bringing me water with ice throughout the night, which was such a kind thing to do and genuinely kept me going.
The Card of the Night: Strength
Strength kept showing up across readings all night. When the same card appears that many times it's always worth paying attention to and in this case it made a lot of sense. Strength is about the internal reserves you build over time, the ability to sit with difficulty and come through it steadily rather than breaking under it. A lot of the conversations I had touched on that in different ways, people navigating real change and pressure in their lives and trying to find solid ground.
The Devil and Death came up for a few people too and both caused a moment of hesitation when they landed on the table. But there are no negative cards in tarot and those two are actually a good example of why. The Devil is usually about recognising you can move past your own self doubt and Death is about rebirth, one phase ending so another can start. The conversations that followed those cards were some of the best of the night.
St. Helen's Is a Special Venue
I've performed at St. Helen's before but I'm always glad to be back. It's one of those old manor hotels that's been beautifully kept up, with a modern wing alongside the original buildingand the whole place has a warmth that newer venues just don't have yet. I've actually stayed here as a guest myself, so I've got a genuine soft spot for it. The hotel staff were brilliant all night too, just really warm and easy to work alongside.
A Really Good Night
The feedback as people were leaving was lovely and I drove home feeling good about the whole thing, sore voice and all. Nights where you run over time because people are still queuing are the best kind. It means the event worked and people got something real out of it, which is all I want.
If you're putting together a summer party or corporate event and want to bring something a bit different, get in touch. Having close-up magic and tarot in the same room covers a lot of ground. You can find out more about booking both through Elite Irish Magicians, or read more about how I approach tarot readings if you're curious about what a reading actually involves.
