I have to talk about the venue first, because Cashel Palace Hotel is genuinely something else. The grounds are beautiful and the facilities are exceptional. There's a real sense of care and history to the place. The staff were super helpful and an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish. When a venue operates at that level it makes everything easier as a performer. You just feel looked after and you can focus entirely on the people in front of you.

The event had a lovely indoor-outdoor split to it. Outside there was a sheltered area with a barbecue where people gathered for food. Inside, the Donoghue's bar had that warm, cosy old Irish pub feel that you can't manufacture. It was the kind of space where people naturally settle in and chat and enjoy themselves. Perfect for close-up magic.

A Crowd That Genuinely Loves Magic

The Waystone staff could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. From the moment I arrived they made me feel like part of the group. That energy carries into the performance in a big way.

What made this particular afternoon so special was that a good number of people there are genuine magic fans. Not just politely curious. They love it. When word went around that there was a magician at the party, people were already excited before I reached their table. That kind of enthusiasm is infectious. When someone is genuinely looking forward to being amazed, the reactions you get are just extraordinary.

What Magic Does to a Room

I mixed and mingled through the afternoon doing close-up magic and mind reading. One of my favourite moments was a signed card appearing from inside my shoe. The look on people's faces when something like that happens is just priceless. It's not just surprise. It's that deeper thing where for a second the world doesn't follow the rules you thought it did.

That's what I love about this work. When you see something that the world says is impossible, right in front of your eyes, it pulls you back to a place where anything feels possible. People often describe it as feeling like a kid again. That pure, unguarded sense of wonder. You can't fake it and you can't manufacture it. You can only create the conditions for it to happen.

The vibe throughout the whole event was just positive. Everyone was gracious with their time. It was one of those afternoons where you just feel genuinely happy to be doing what you do.
